Hi Steamboating Friends
Thank you for your kind words and ongoing support. You will not be rid of me yet as I am being led astray by Dietrich who is encouraging me to build the engine that would be required for the canoe we discussed in "An anti-dote to Cabin Fever".
I am so sorry to hear news of your wife Russ and I hope that your family will rally around and help make life work for you both. Whilst I have no experience of stroke recovery, Kath & I have a lot of experience of mobility equipment for disabled people. Of course our experience may be quite unsuited to your wife's needs, but here is our website just in case: https://cyclingotherwise.co.uk/ We built it because there seemed to be so little user based information out there.
There is more recent news of Frances Ann. The buyer has decided that she is far too small for him so has taken out the plant and sold on the hull. He has now commissioned a custom designed 22ft launch which will be clinker larch on oak, with teak decks and mahogany fit-out. Our Contributing colleague Greg has done the design and will be building it from the ground up. Hopefully he may come back and post us up some pictures.
Best wishes
Pete

Pete:
Thank you for your encouragement. I have bookmarked your web page for future reading. (soon).
And Son #2 & wife are driving the 4+ hours south from Seattle as I write this. I get wonderful weekend company!
Always healing.
That's interesting new about Frances-Anne. I don't know whether to feel happy she is evolving, or sad that she will not be appreciated as you created her.
But you seem circumspect about the news. 'Hope so.
Back to prepping our house.
If I could just figure out how to make the indoor wheelchair platform lift steam powered...

Keep trying Russ, the time to stop is when the steam starts coming out of your ears. That is the time to stop for a beer (or six) and contemplate the next step.
I'm sure Pete's experiences from his website will be useful.

Re: Frances-Anne
Hi Peter,
I'm a little sad that Frances Ann's story ended up as a steamboat. It is good to know, however, that both the hull and the steam plant have started a new life.
I will design the small steam engine with the cylinder block of the steam truck and create the drawings so that it can then be built.
There could also be a suitable boiler because the owner unfortunately passed away and the widow is thinking about selling it. But she still needs something to make up her mind.
Best wishes
Dietrich

Re: Frances-Anne
Hi Dietrich
Thanks for the post. I have been cheeky and suggested to Ivan the Terrible (See the Welcome and other threads) that Frances Ann's hull might just be what he needs. So there is still hope that she will steam in the future.
Thanks for the engine and boiler suggestion. That sounds just the job to keep me out of mischief!
Regards
Pete
