John, they are all serving as stays. Our code requires a minimum of beading on the combustion chamber end and flaring on the smokebox end. Though as any boilermaker knows, the roll in the sheet does all of the holding.

Yes, that's what I have heard @ Beaumaris. By the mercies, I received prints with the engine. I am working at
Iona so she'll be a "cracker." Her namesake, my mother, certainly was. But you all will be the judge of that at the end of the day. Thanks for the encouragement!
