For those of you who do not know, Cumbria has been hit by torrential rain and very bad flooding over in the West of the county.

Windermere was 2.7 foot higher this time than the last highest mark.

I already know of one steam boat which has hit the roof of its boat house and then sunk. There ate 2 more large boats which hit the top last time but were ok - neither have another 2.7 foot though.

Our boat is also in a boat house there. The height isn't so much of an issue, but we didn't allow 12 foot of rope for the moorings

Today I have spent some hours being very cold and wet in an attempt to assess the damage on the steamboats.

3 boats have sunk, 1 has a crushed cabin, 1 has a very dented funnel and the really large one in unknown.

The one with the crushed cabin has probably feared the worst. The three which have sunk would appear to be ok otherwise. One of them is currently 3 foot under the water line to the cabin roof. Fortunetly I was able to tie a fender onto the end of its mooring rope while releasing the boat it was trying to drag under with it.

That's a shame! How's your dad's boat?

WOW that's terrible.

Remember though, it's only a boat, it can be rebuilt. It's harder to "rebuild" a drowning victim.

who's boats have been damaged?
It was only a few months ago when we helped
with the boat house....I presume Wray castle
got it bad, my thoughts are with all ....and there
is more rain to come, another 4" in 24hours.

You can see the water line on the wall - if the ropes hadn't have pulled it under it would have most likely hit the roof and caused more damage.
