Rally Attendance ?

Post by ianrichards » Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:29 pm

Good afternoon folks.
Just a general question.
Once again we are putting together the details for our annual Calstock Steamboat Rally for 2020. Already we have had 15 boats confirmed for the event with others in the pipeline.
How does this attendance rate with rallies held outside the UK ?
I’d be very interested to know.
Many thanks
Ian

In the Northwest U.S. our annual club gathering has attracted anywhere from 12 to 28 boats. I think the numbers are in the same range in California.

In August we held the annual gathering of the NSC ( Dutch steam launch Collective) at the National Steam Engine museum in Medemblik with a total attendance of 7 boats, with one paddle steamer on shore in the process of being built.
During the 2 day event we took about nine hundred passengers for short boat rides. It was fairly busy to say the least but good fun.

Thanks.
It looks like 17 + at a regular rally is a pretty good turnout.
I would be interested to know how other countries fair.
Thanks

Our rallies here in California have seen a steady decline for the past decade. We only had 6 Steamboats at our annual Delta Meet this year (2019), down from 15 or so boats just 10 years ago and nearly 30 boats from the late '80's/early '90's. I think this is partly due to an aging population, and how spread out everyone is in this large state.

I have heard one of the meets in New Hampshire still gets nearly 50 boats.

Lees Mills draws foreign attendance from the UK. John Winn comes nearly every year from England. I'm kind of midwest, but someday I'd like to the Lees Mill rally.

I'm surprised at how often I'm asked for my email address and then get great pictures sent my way.

For some reason all of the pictures make me look very old. Grump.

Haha my dad sent me this picture of him the other day saying he didn't recognize the old guy a the front of the shovel. Doesn't look like the 19 year old he feels like inside.
