Yeah, good old ebay. I like pieces like this even more than the gauges.
If you look closely , you'll see a steamboat mention in the letterhead.

At a steam show a few years back I was given an original stock certificate from 1877. I'm also posting the gauge production year/serial number chart that will date gauges between 1895 and 1922. And the last chart shows the different gauge logos and the years in which they were used.

Much of the information I've been able to collect was from vintage trade journals I've been able to find on google books and archive.org. Here are the covers from soem of them.

An interesting sales letter from 1897. It looks like a form letter with the address of the company being approached typed in at a later date

Henry Ashton, founder of the company
Albert C Ashton Henry's oldest son who took over running the business after Henry's passing in 1895.
