Interesting to read this document, especially to learn the prevailing steam pressures of the times, both "low pressure" steamboats, generating steam at around 5 - 10 PSIG, and "high pressure" steamers, generally popular on the USA western rivers, running in the vicinity of 50 PSIG.
However these "low pressure" boilers, often +/-10 feet in diameter, could cause immense damage when they ruptured.
