Last night there was a fire in the warehouse the WW2 Liberty Ship Jeremiah O'Brien (JOB) and submarine USS Pompanito are moored next to. The warehouse and pier are a total loss. Some of their tools and equipment (forklifts, propane, new boiler tubes, etc.) was stored in there, along with some of their volunteer's cars. The extent of damage to the ship is unknown at this time, with blistered paint being the minimum...

**If the city rebuilds the pier, there is a low likelihood of them allowing the JOB, along with the WWII submarine USS Pompanito, to moor there at the same price she has now, if at all. She will lose much of her foot traffic. Her steam-ups have all been cancelled this year as it is. She in on trouble and needs an outpouring of support and pressure on the city of San Francisco to give her a permanent, and favourable, location.**

Whoops! I walked along that pier to peer at the JOB when I was in Frisco in 2005. One hopes it was accidental and not some idiot with a match.
