I found this link over on the the http://www.practicalmachinist.com site.
There are quite a few steam ships and boats in the photos.
I would not normally post a link to a blogspot but these photos are outstanding.(for me anyway)

Wow! The sharpness of focus, and clarity, on a lot of those shots would do justice to many a modern day lens.

It is hard to stop looking at the pictures once you start. There is so much detail as to how people looked, dressed and their work environment.
