The Smithsonian has been working to colorify some of the first moving picture film to tell the story of immigration across the Atlantic to the United States.
This is a 45min full episode, and within the first couple of minutes you see steam ships and steam tugs around Ellise Island and New York!
In color for the first time!

That looks like a great film
Reminds me of an incredible colourized film:
"They Shall Not Grow Old" especially poignant since the 100th anniversary of the armistice (Remberace Day) last year (101 years Monday)

I was lucky enough to see that twice last year, and I'll probably see it again this year. Absolutely fantastic work.TahoeSteam wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 3:01 amThat looks like a great film

Re: Smithsonian : America in Color: Coming to America
I was guessing that would probably happen. :/ Sorry.
In 1992 at the age of 10 I spent 8months living in Europe(6 in Hungary, and 2 in Austria, Tyrol). Near the end of the trip my Dad bought some Hungarian films so we could take them back to US. He found someone in Budapest that had VCRs to transcribe PAL->NTSC so that we could take the videos he bought in PAL and watch them when we got back to the US. I remember one of the PAL tapes had some anti-copy protection that made they copied audio sound warbly. Region locking is not fair, it's just a ridiculous excuse to take more money. We had already paid for the movie, and were being punished for changing the format...

Region blocking is another way to prevent cultures from understanding each other, making it easier to not see would-be enemies as human beings with hopes, dreams, loves, and fears... it's easier to fight someone or write them off as crazy if you can't see how/why they think the way they do...
Just short of book burning IMO
