Wooding up at Night

I enjoyed this drawing of resupplying fuel at night by a large steamboat on the Mississippi in the 1800s.
Some or all of the actual labor moving the fuel appears to be African American, perhaps slaves. I do personally genuinely believe that steam technology helped make slavery somewhat obsolete over time. This picture is an interesting snap shot in time.
If you've ever tried to get very far using wood with a steamboat, it can be a far bit of work to Wood it up! Must have been pretty ridiculous on some of these large steamships.
