Prop re-pitching

The video is fantastic - that lets me know that what I want to do is at least technically feasible.

My thought was to heat the prop just the way the gentleman in the video does it, but to have the hub and blade held firmly in a jig that would control the amount of twist fairly precisely.

My prop is a large blade area 18"x23" three blade pushing a heavy 20' steel hull, so if I succeeded in getting it out to 30" or beyond, it would not be spinning very fast under the most optimistic scenario. I think I could manage the balancing within necessary limits as long as I don't simply ruin the prop in the re-pitching process.

I have a number of quite beaten up props acquired for under $30 each on ebay a few years ago. I think I'd try re-pitching a couple of those before going at my good prop.

Good evening Scott,

I'm definitely no expert but I think you won't get more than 2 or 3 inches by bending the blades of your good prop'. Practising with a used and/or damaged props is a real good idea.
