Water glass installation

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

Water glass installation

Post by Mfoxchicago » Fri May 01, 2015 3:23 am

Hey guys, water was leaking out of the bottom of my sight glass tricocks yesterday. I decided it was time I remove the packing nuts, the brass packing plug and check the state of the water glass washers. It was clear, it was time to replace them. Just wanted to make sure I reassembled it correctly. I installed one new rubber washer each (top&bottom) on the glass, found new O-rings to go on the top side of the brass packing plugs where they interlock with the packing nuts and re-tightened, by hand, till firm.

Anything I may have over looked?

I plan to get up a small head of steam tomorrow afternoon to confirm all is tight before putting her back in to service on Saturday. Just curious if you felt I forgot anything.

As always, Thanks!

Mack
