Metal packing vs. stuffing box

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

"And I cannot get this photo to post upright, regardless of how I choose its orientation. Sorry..

Are you on the other side of the earth?

Some times I wonder about that.

Hi Russ

For topsy turvey photos the trick I use is to import(open) the photo into (say) Paint.net and then use their tools to get it the right way up should it be the wrong way. Most likely not. Next stage is to use Crop to take a few pixels off all the way around the photo. Now save it as PHOTONAME.PNG. If the website refuses .PNG files, simply load the .png version back into Paint and re-save it as .JPG. What I think that process does is to re-write the orientation data in the photo which is what the site reads to know which way to display it. iPad photos seem to be the main culprits for me. I think that, despite the iPad being usable in any orientation, it must have a default orientation hard wired.

If any folk know more and better, please enlighten us.

Regards

Pete

Here comes my last hijack of this non-photo posting thread:

The Chaski Live Steam discussion board appears to use the same software used here.
We recently began seeing pictures posted in incorrect orientations.

The Web Master of the Chaski web board has investigated how the photos' "metadata" can cause this. Much of the problems began with the latest versions of the Apple iPhones, which did revamp they metadata usage.
Now the pictures are posting correctly. So it can be done.
