Start of VFT build

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

yes wet leg Wes. standard VFT 'donkey' boiler. Plate now at machine shop getting tube holes put in. Go pick up 24" gas pipe shell when feeling rich.

What material/source are you considering using for the boiler shell? I have my eye on A106 Sch 40 pipe right now but that stuff is rare to come by in the small quantifies needed for our launches.

Looking around,

https://www.trupply.com/ has cut-to-length A106 up to 8" diameter.
https://www.industrialtube.com/tested/ appears to have cut to length service for A106 up to 24" diameter.

I know nothing about either supplier other than what is on their websites.

Another option is talking to a local engineering firm that builds pressure vessels.

I bought my boiler shell cut to length from http://www.dspipe.com/page.aspx?page_id=16 DS Pipe in Baltimore.
It was not easy to convince Allnutt. All his shop training had given him a profound prejudice against inexact work, experimental work, hit-or-miss work.
