Boiler Bushings for VFT

Post by tandemcompound » Tue Jul 06, 2021 8:13 pm

i am starting to make the bushings for the exterior boiler fittings. Just spent an hour looking at ASME code B31 but could not come up with an A number for the quality of steel for the raw slug. I will bore, thread, and put an exterior taper on it. Does anyone know what quality steel I should use?

Any particular reason you're not using thread-o-lets?

You can use SA 105, SA 675, or SA 696. You can buy A 105 half couplings from McMaster to save some time. https://www.mcmaster.com/4513K77
It was not easy to convince Allnutt. All his shop training had given him a profound prejudice against inexact work, experimental work, hit-or-miss work.
