TWIN 32 x 38 mm - steam engine for small boats or canoes

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

Well done Dietrich

As the others have said the engine parts looks wonderful. The more you show us of the build the more convinced I become that I just don't have the skills to build your design, which is a pity. However, I can continue to enjoy what you are doing.

Regards

Pete

Hello Dietrich,

Might you share your drawings?

I'm mostly interested in the valve box and the linkage.

Hello Mark,

i'm very sorry, but the engine is designed in 3D, so there are currently no classic 2D drawings.
When the engine is finished and successfully tested, I may create a set of drawings, but that is uncertain.

3-D would files would be fine if you don't mind sharing.

Throttle-Quadrant is soldered

Post by dampfspieler » Mon Jul 04, 2022 7:53 pm

Hello,

the throttle quadrant is built from parts. They are silver soldered. I did it a little differently than what I drew. This makes it easy to align the handle of the regulator lever in any desired direction. There is an M3 bolt to allow the quadrant to be secured in any desired position using a pliers clamp on the lug of the throttle valve body.

Next I will sandblast the part, bevel the edges and finish the abutment for the connecting rod to the throttle slide lever.

The throttle slide valve is finished. The valve has a recess that reduces the effective valve area when opened. This reduces the force required for actuation.

The valve area without recess is 1.1 cm², with recess only 0.63 cm². This reduces the actuating force from 9 to 5 kp.

Your work is beautiful Dietrich.

I having a bit of a struggle trying to envision the throttle. Do you have an illustration or drawing that might help?

Hi Wesley,

it is a bit "NAVY K - Style", the pic should answer the question.

Hello,

the throttle valve linkage is mechanically finished. There are IGLIDUR-bushings in the lever and the bolts in the forks are screwed in (M5 x 0,5 mm) and secured with a lock nut.

It is possible to clamp the lever in in any desired position.

All steel bolts and nuts will be blacked when the engine is successfully tested.
