Thank you for allowing me to join. I currently do not have a steam boat, but I have just started building the Elliot Bay Tripple Expansion Engine. This is my first marine steam engine. I have so far built 5 other engines from castings four of them steam including a Corliss engine that was sold by Cole's and a hit and miss gasoline engine. I also have a steam background which includes over 20 years firing and running steam locomotives. I look forward to gleaning a wealth of knowledge here, and maybe even contributing a little of my own in the future.

Welcome,

The EB triple is quite the undertaking. One of the members has built two of them and they are works of art. I'm sure he will chime in with suggestions on what can be improved and pitfalls in the prints.

I am building an EB York engine currently.

Cheers

Ken

Thanks Ken,
Recently Pat Spurlock with a good friend of mine Keith Sturmburg did a lot of revising of the drawings and some of the castings to hopefully resolve some of the issues that folks had. I just got started on machining the bedplate, so I'm not too far into it yet. I had to have a surgery recently, so until I'm recovered from that, I went be able to play in the shop for a while.

Welcome to the forum, and, as I am sure you know already, building and running a steam plant, turning fire and water into power is a most satisfying hobby (and in my case, employment for the last 45 years!). Have you had much exposure to boats and boating?

Not much as far as private steam launches are concerned. However I have volnteered as a fireman/oiler on the steamer Virginia V which is a 122 ft wooden hulled steamer in Seattle. She has a tripple expansion engine also.
