The tube and shaft are second hand from another boat I would think, the shaft is an inch and an eighth and the tube is an inch and five eighths it needs to be shortened for my boat and retreaded at one end, the prop is unknown it just came with it so I may have to get another

This so inspirational and encouraging. I'm a machinist and electronics person and 'real' wood working terrifies me.

I’ve got a lot of advice from mike cole about how to proceed with the copper nails and roves and if you keep going, good results seem to appear, I find myself looking at what I’ve done and I’m a bit surprised it’s starting to look ok, I was a bit skeptical about posting my amateur efforts to such an experienced audience

It looks great so far, Colin. You've chosen such a lovely looking hull - I'm sure she'll be a very elegant boat. You are inspiring me to get off my tail with my own project. Thanks for sharing your project with us!
Cheers,
Scott

Re: Colin chandlers 14ft yachting world day boat conversion to steam
A question for the knowledgeable out there,
How far forward from the transom should the propeller be situated? Obviously the further forward it goes the smaller the props going to be, at the moment the prop is 15 inches in diameter sitting back about two inches from the transom, is this a good spot?
It is also missing the hull by three inches at the top, I can cut down the two bronze supports and move it forward if necessar,
I'm starting off this project with a little Stuart 5A because it's my first attempt and also I got the engine already from an SBA member, should it be geardown with a big prop or run direct with a smaller one? I've got a water tube boiler lined up that will easily run the 5a ,
Thanks in advance for any help given Colin
