Post by mcandrew1894 » Thu Nov 26, 2009 1:13 am

Hi,

Guess I'll post my boat again on the new forum!

Here's a couple of shots ......

She is also based on Panatela...just a bit wider at 25' x 5'

Her engine and boiler were designed and built by me also.
1.5 x 3.0 x 2.5 compound with a Blackstaffe boiler of about 18sq feet.

Here's a slide show of some of the construction

The Day we rolled her over......Yankee style..

Hull construction, below the chine she's strip planked and then cold molded and fiber glassed.

Hello Dave,

nice to meet you here again. Your boat disappeared on my list by a data base error - will check it out in near future.

Never saw this picture of the turning process - always good to have some "agriculture tools and products" on hand. Will remember the bale of strow next time.

Nothing like a well made tractor with a three point hitch to get things done :)

Those straw bales were the cheapest skid bars I ever bought.

Dave

PS oh Rushforth is still there if you look....just not on the list....

Thanks Piet!

But you understand, now don't you :D

She was a labor of love or obsession....the line sometimes gets blurred.

When I finally was ready to build the hull, I decided to loft her.

But where!? You need lots of room......

One rainy Sunday morning shortly after marrying my wonderful wife, I decided to loft the boat .....in the kitchen. :D

I nailed down some 6mm plywood painted white and started drawing...it was the only place I had that had the room...it went from the side entrance past the bathroom and eat in kitchen....through the kitchen itself and out into the dining room.
28 feet in all!

OK so two hours goes by...my wonderful wife never left the TV.....she was watching a movie......when the movie was over....she came out to see what all the hammering was about...... :D

.....long pause..........um What ya doing?....

Never even picked my head up as I was sure laser beams would be piercing my skull if I did...

Answer: " ah lofting the boat"

(I was fairly sure my life was in jepardy at this point..)

Long pause................

Doing it in the kitchen huh?.....she says

"Yup ....only place with enough room.....".....still didn't pick my head up

Reply " yea I guess I can understand that......."

I figured I should start to feel the flesh on the back of my neck burning at any moment now...but nothing yet......

Reply " How long is it going to be here?"

I replied......oh a week... ( it ended up being two....)

LONG PAUSE.....................Im starting to sweat now....

Reply from her....." I suppose you don't want me to walk on it?"

:D :D :D

She's a Keeper!

 Wifes of steamboaters represent a high point in the "development of the species". They should be second only to the steamboat itself in maintenance. :!:

She gets what ever she wants..... I wouldn't have it any other way.

Though I did promise that he next big project wouldn't require me building a shed or the need for registration....and that it fit on the bench.... :D ....in the shop! :D

Well, we building our boat in the garage, it just fit, its very tiny.
In the garage there is an door to the house kitchen. So the house is smelling to epoxy, welding gasses, smook from welding, paint and so on and so on. On the furniture there is always an layer of dust sinds we started to build. And stil she says notthing, we are stil together.
Se we have wonderfull wives, yes we have.
But building in the kitchen for a start, I dont think she let me do that.

By the way, Panatela is 25" mine garage is 35"
Wide 4"5' the garage is +/- 8"
So she fit just. Panatela was the one of the few boats that fit in the garage.

Just the lofting part....not the building part :D

Here's an article ...just to make sure we are talking about the same thing.

Boat building is far too dirty to do in my home also! :D
