I've used Delrin in valve gear bushings w/ very good success. I've not tried them yet on the crosshead. Otter has a tiny crosshead bearing ( 7/16" x 5/8" in the little end of the rod), the numbers work for static loading but I need to check the PV values. Perhaps not running that poor engine w/ 150 psi+ of steam pressure would help .

Delrin (acetal resin) is one of my favorite materials for smaller bearings and sliding surfaces.
It likes to be contained so it cannot "creep" and move from its assigned location.

I have acquired small blocks of black Delrin impregnated with graphite. Even better.
'Have not tried to locate it commercially.

thanks for all your comments some good advice and observations there, but I can actually see play in the mains and the big end's so will eventually dig in deeper as I say luckily Stuart's are about 1 hours drive from me so can make sure stuff is right before I buy
