The crankcase for the uniflow engine is from a Wisconsin AEN gasoline engine. This engine is somewhat unusual because the air cooled cylinder is detachable from the crankcase. Yes, the flywheel is from the original engine, I will machine off the blower fins when I get a round tuit.

Ah, Fred Rosse, removable cylinder makes perfect sense for the conversion!

I was able to work on my lathe today. I bored the cylinder a couple thousandths under an inch so I could lap it later.

Then I turned the cylinder top flange and the exhaust manifold recess. A ring will fit over the flange and seat in the groove at the bottom to form the manifold chamber.

The head will trap the top of the ring and the flange, which will be flush with each other.

I'll have to mill ports into the cylinder at the base of the chamber. Not sure how much percentage of the stroke they should be in height.....

The casting roughed out. A register will be cut on the back, and then the plate thinned and the shaft and bearing spaces bored out. A valve boss will be added by brazing, and then the plate will be trimmed to fit the crankcase. Finally the excess length of the casting which serves as a chucking extension will be trimmed to final length.
