This beautiful ship may have delivered its last load under it's own power. Port City Steamship intends to cut out the engine room and make it into a barge. Please voice your support. I've had the privilege of working as an oiler on this ship and it is an incredible piece of history.
The sixty-four year old engine runs great thanks to the dedication of the engineers who machine the parts required to keep it going. Skinner Unaflow? It's still kickin after all these years. The auxiliaries were taken from a scrapped Victory ship in 1950 when she was repowered. Untold generations of men have sweated and bled to keep this iron working. It's our great-grandfathers magic carpet made of steel. I can't express the anguish I feel, knowing it may be dying.
