Hello, I'm a new member. I’ve just moved to Cumbria to start my new job as the Learning and Interpretation Officer for the Windermere Steamboat Museum, Lakeland Arts Trust. I’m new to steam boats although not entirely new to steam engines – I spent three years working in the Informal Learning team at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum. Prior to moving to the Lake District I was working for the Oxford University Museums and Collections. The WSM team are very busy as the new museum project is gathering pace. I’m sure on the journey to opening (hopefully late 2015) you will hear more. In the meantime please feel free to look at our Facebook page and comment on anything that takes your interest. Thank you, Carol

Welcome to the forum Carol.

I hope you find this forum as pleasant as a nice sunny day on the Lake.

We do still get sunshine up here don't we?

Hello Carol,

Look forward to meeting you when next up to do some work on Shamrock with Roger.

Hope to see Osprey back out on the lake when A has finished with her.

All the best

Looks as if my employers will keep me in Glasgow over another weekend, and I am thinking it would be nice to visit the Windermere Steamboat Museum. Is that possible this Saturday or Sunday?

Distance wise, easy, but you'd be best with your own transport. Rail is also possible but may be messy, with changes.

Distance is about 150 miles, say around two and a half hours by road.

A very beautiful part of the country well worth the effort if you can manage. Can be wet.

The Museum is closed and has been for a few years, obviously a private view can usually be arranged but not usually on the weekend.
Best to contact them on www.steamboats.org.uk
Regards
Jack

Yes, as Jack says, the Windermere Steamboat Museum is currently closed and, because of the phase we are in with the exciting new museum project, access to the site is very limited. Please contact the museum directly. Thank you, Carol
