Hello from British Columbia.I have been lurking for a while, now it is time to dive in!The only boat I have is a 16 foot glass lifeboat which I thought might make a nice steamer with the right power plant, but now it seems I am on a different track.Last weekend I brought home a 1911 Lune Valley compound 4+8x5.I'll need a bigger boat. The engine has been in dry storage, greased and oiled, since 1947,before that it was in a fishboat until the boiler gave up.Originally it was in service with the navy.It is coming apart for cleaning, and most of the machine has very little to zero wear,no rust.I have found no information on the internet regarding these engines,so I will be asking questions!I look forward to corresponding with other members. Thank You for taking me in! Mike Stacey

Hi Mike,
We are all eagerly awaiting pictures of this, an engine of this size is now rare. Lune valley were not actually engine builders but marketed Savery and Simpson Strickland engines. I suspect this is a Savery 32 I.H.P. but the picture will hopefully tell all. I have a smaller version of this here in UK.
Best regards and welcome to the forum.
Jack

Thanks for the warm welcome. That's very interesting that Lune Valley were agents for other makers! I am amazed at how beautifully the engine was built.I'm lucky to have acquired it.My dad had been bugging the owner to sell it for years! I have a few pictures to post, but when I tried to include it in my first post the all-knowing computer said it was too big.I'm not great with computers, but I could email it. Mike

There is a simple program that you can download to reduce your photos with, called PIXresizer. Once downloaded it is reasonably self explanatory. All you need then is, to know where (folder) you keep your photos, and where you are going to save the reduced ones. I have had no trouble with photos reduced to 600 x 450.
Welcome aboard.

Jack, that's a beautiful engine, in pristine condition for its age. What are its dimensions? Any chance to get a better pic of the worm gear driven pump? By the way, I like the crosshead sliding assy, very unique design.
