That is a great video Bart. Wish we had more exposure like that and the ones back east.

Thanks for posting. That certaibnly cheered up a damp and potentially miserable New Year evening here in wet Cymru.

Happy New Year to you all!

Pete, we need a video of you standing on a wind and rain driven bluff over Cardigan Bay singing Men of Harlech!

(This request coming from a lazy sod wintering in Baja under sunny skies.)

We're supposed to get 65 mph gusts tonight, and 17F (-8C) Thursday night and snow at the end of the week.

I can certainly do the bit of 'standing on the bluff (perhaps Constitution Hill - 52°25'29"N 4°05'01"W?) in the wind and driving rain'. The singing thing is what would not work as there is a huge amount of musical skill around here and it is likely I would get locked up for ruining the County's reputation. Today, though has not been a wind and rain day. We have instead a strong Easterly (up to 35mph) and the temperature has stayed well below 4 C all day. Clearly better than Bart's expected weather but not what we would usually expect here. There is no sign of precipitation and the solar PV has done quite well for a change.

I have been an indoor pup and spent time on the PC doing stuff related to the monotube boiler.

Regards

Pete

That's an excellent video, and thanks for the link. The scenery looks a lot like Raquette Lake and its adjoining rivers in the Adirondacks.

Like the people in the video, I too am very concerned about the future of the hobby. I've been an active steamboater since 1993, and it seems like i have always been the youngest one in the group. Now I am 62, and I'm still (practically) the youngest one. There is Dan Baima, who will certainly be a leader in the hobby, but I hope that he isn't leading a hobby of one.

I'm 38, and there's a number of steamboat interested folks around here in their 20's and 30's... Unfortunately cost of living makes it all but impossible for them to afford even a used one as storage and a place to work on it becomes the main issue.
