I have 2 little ports on my saftey valve, one in the same direction as the out port and one on te side. When the valve goes off the ports also vent alot of steam, why does this happen? If your standingbbeside it you'll get blasted with slteam.

On mine, one port is much smaller than the other. The large one (larger than the input) is where the relief flow come out. Do not, of course, restrict this in any significant way. Mine is fitted to a thin wall pipe directed upwards and away from the crew. The small one is intended for condensate and rain water and such. It's also important that it not be plumbed in such a way that any standing water develop. If you are not going to plumb it back to the hot well or some such place, a 90 degree el downwards and away from people is O.K.
After all of this typing yours will turnout to be completely different from mine (grin).
