As the title states, there will be a Steam Engineering & Operating Safety Class held March 31- April 1 at the Roots Of Motive Power, in Willits, CA

The class covers the safe operation of steam equipment. Including hands-on running time with large steam equipment.

Even for the most seasoned steam engineer, it is a good refresher course.

My father and I have taken the class previously, and will be attending again this year.

The class was fun, although a couple instructors could use some public speaking lessons. Both days covered Four hours of classroom each day, then about four hours of playing with equipment. Class covered basic knowledge steam stuff, operation and safety, and boiler accident review.

Equipment operating for the class was a Heisler locomotive, and Ohio railroad crane, and a Buffalo Springfield steam roller. \

Cost was $80 including a year membership to Roots which entails a bi-monthly newsletter and free admission (and operation of equipment) at their events.

FYI, the rule on fusible plugs is that they must be replaced every 10 years IF they are removed and cleaned every year. If they are not cleaned every year, they must be replaced every 3 years.

The class pretty much fun and okay. I got to learn a lot of things regarding safe operation of steam equipment and it will help me for sure.
