Howdy All,

Any idea what kind of stak temps we run ? I am coveting an old brass thermometer that would look great on my boat but I am not sure it goes up high enough. It only goes to 260F

Although I haven't placed an appropriate pyrometer on my boiler yet, a couple friends with Robert's style boilers, burning wood with various oil product backup, show over 800 degrees F in their funnels.

My stack temp in the Margaret S. runs around 350F, and that is the lowest stack temperature I have seen on a steamboat. I think typical values would be around 500F, or higher with heavy firing.

I kind of figured that..............the thermometer I was looking at doesnt go that high..............ah well...........money saved for now.

On my last steamboat, Artemis, I was operating at 150 psi (165 psia, temp. 365F) and the steam temperature after the superheater was running about 425F. My stack temperature was about 550F firing with steam atomized oil. That was considered pretty good by those that observed it.
