After getting off active duty during a conversation with a Radioman, that had been in about the same time I was, when he disvovered that I was a BT, he almost took a step back and then confessed," You know when we(OPs/Deck) walked past the fire room hatch we would always slide to the outboard side of the passage to stay as far away as we could out of fear that a big hand covered in black oil would reach out grabb us. We could only imagine what fate would then await a none engineer down there?!!!!!" Confirmation of a reputation we thought held by those that worked above deck.
