Hello from Switzerland

I' m a new Member, until now without steamboat.

But not without steam engine, i bougt recently a unused Semple 354 Compound.
Boat is to built (design on Freeship develops slowly)
Later a lot of questions will follow about the engine and the few little parts needed
(Like a boiler) for a steamplant.

As you see i'm not an englishman but i hope you can encrypt it

Greetings Urs

Welcome here! I work for a corporation, "URS", design of steam-electric plants. I have also used Freeship, later Deftship, to design my steamboat, about 25 years planning, and about 0.3 year building the boat. You have a good engine for a larger boat, 20-26 feet (6-8 meters), with propeller drive.

What type of boat do you want to have?

Hello Fred

The Boat will be between 7.5 and 8m with a bit heavy deplacement around
3.5 metrical tonnes fully loaden.

It will sport a Cabin and the Intention is travalling the Lakes Rivers and Canals of Europe

Exactly i dont use Freeship as i have Hydronship the free development of a Russian Engeneer.

What spells URS of the company you work for?
In my case its simply my given name...... a name very rare outside switzerland
(Means bear in french)

Greetings Urs

Hi Urs,

Village near us- Urswick- named after the d'Urswicks who were William the Conqueror's mates.

Can you put a couple of images of your planned design on here? (start a thread in designs though, so more people will see it)

Greg

For good examples of hobby steamboats I would suggest purchasing the book Steamboats and Modern Steam Launch - currently published by Elliott Bay Steam Launches. You can order it from their website at http://www.steamlaunch.com . You will probably have to drop the owneer, Pat Spurlock, an email to find out what the overseas postage is. The book is well worth the going price of $ 59.95. Called the "bible of hobby steamboating", if you had no other refeerence, you could build a working, attactive, and safe hobby steamboat. I believe there is a Swiss steamboat club http://www.vsd-asv.ch/ which you may want to look into.
