Re: Water Gauge Legs

Just adding to my previous that the duplex pressure gauge is fitted for test purposes only.
The following photo shows the gauges for the boat.
And, my fault, the boat is 18 ft, not the 22 ft previously stated - it 'looks' so big on the trailer.

Re: Propane Burner Arrangement

Some poor photos showing the latest build status. The builder drilled the pilot valve out to 1 mm (thought to be about 0.3 mm before) and got a very large pilot as a result. A pilot shield was added to direct one of the three pilot flames onto the temperature detector. An adjustment on the safety va...

Re: Water Gauge Legs

Apologies for the poor photos, the family camera died a couple of weeks ago, so I had to use my old Nokia 2600C. The photos show the water gauge piping. I think the current arrangement should be acceptable. The steam loop does not allow water entrapment, the water loop is straight, and the cocks all...

Water Gauge Legs

I have a thread currently running on propane burner pilot size, and this thread deals with the water gauge on the same boat. The builder currently has a half-loop, oriented upwards, on the steam leg of the water gauge. My experience is with locomotives and I have not seen such loops before. The loop...

Re: Propane Burner Arrangement

Fred and Ron, Thanks for the responses. The builder and I are planning to visit the burner supplier to discuss the situation and to investigate how to best install a larger pilot. The builder is not concerned about gas usage by a larger pilot. It seems to me that a stack damper is a 'good idea' to h...

Propane Burner Arrangement

A good friend of mine is building a wooden steam launch of about 22 ft with a 3x4 inch cylinder and a propane fired water-tube boiler. I am assisting with boiler set-up and commissioning. The boiler has been fired twice, each time with some propane burner difficulties. The burner system was purchase...

I good friend of mine in Sydney is building a wooden steam launch, about 22 ft, with a 3 x 4 inch single cylinder and a propane fired water-tube boiler. I have joined the forum rather than my friend because he is rather intimidated by computers. My particular interests are in 5 inch gauge live steam...
