Burning Wood Pellets

Post by andrew52 »

Hi all continuing the discussion of burning wood pellets from my posts in the welcome section.
Here is a link to my prototype pellet burner running on a low fire , can someone please tell me if they can open it OK as I have been having trouble loading it ?

And high fire.

This is a pic of my fire pot made from a cast iron cooking pot but notice the loose bottom which is a stainless steel plate I fitted after the original bottom cracked .

ill give it a try. It can be difficult to post YouTubes

First copy the video link

Then post here and select the YouTube button which provides:

Youtube] * [/Youtube

Paste the link in between where I've added an asterisk for demonstration purposes.

They will not display with an "https", it must be "http" only. So simply remove the "s".

The second link with s removed

Yes, the Youtubes are working, but I still cant open the pic.

As the old P.C. seems to have permanently died, I've ordered a new one today, so I can stop using this c****y Tablet! :?

Hi Mike, I think that was my fault ,I think there needs to be a Learner plate smilie ?
My son reckons Imgur.com is the way to go for posting pics but note it automatically includes the img and brackets so if you use the img button you end up with two sets and it doesnt post !

I assume that is your burner pot. So all of the combustion air comes through those holes? What kind and how big of a boiler is this in?

Hi Mike, yes all the air passes through the holes some up through the bottom and some through the side ,the boiler is a VFT with 108 X1" copper tubes X 500 mm long and about 45 sq ' heating surface . I have attached a sketch of the boiler and pellet feeder setup. the latest feeder has a 12 mm thick X 150 mm diameter disc with a 40 mm hole in it driven by a wiper motor so that every time it turns it drops some pellets down the chute as it passes over , there is a plate above to prevent the pellets falling directly down the chute . you can see the feeder attached to the front of the boiler in my original posts . This design is more compact and fits better on the boiler than the auger type feeder .

Better and better all the time!

So how often does the feeder motor cycle at low and high fire? How big is the blower motor and fan and do you have an idea how many amps it draws? Is it adjustable?

What things have gone wrong?

I'm loath to add electrical stuff to my boat but this setup might temp me sorely.

I think this is the first new thing on the forum in quite a while.
