Hello from the Windermere Steamboat Museum

Yes, as Jack says, the Windermere Steamboat Museum is currently closed and, because of the phase we are in with the exciting new museum project, access to the site is very limited. Please contact the museum directly. Thank you, Carol

Having been to an open day a year ago with the SBA I am amazed that the site is not more available, I understand there are great plans and that some of the exhibits in poor condition but Even if all that was done was to open the gate, have a 1*2m information board and a donation tin it would let the general public know what was going on behind the closed doors.

The website is all right, but contains no information on an expected re-opening date, or as far as I could see anything of the work going on in the workshop on the boats.

The museum is currently in a massive state of disruption with the first phase of the demolition in full flow.

A remote site further along the shore is currently being re-structured to house a boatyard which will serve as the conservation workshop/boathouse for the museum until it's completion date.

Carole, who started the thread, no longer works for the Lakeland Arts Trust so unless her replacement carries on there is no one to officially comment on goings on at the museum.

The realisation of Windermere Jetty, Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories has moved a step closer with the appointment of the main contractor, Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Limited. Established in 1830, in Cockermouth, Cumbria Thomas Armstrong (Construction Limited) will start work on the new museum site on the shores of Windermere this month.

Cant be a bad thing!
