I bought this partial build engine in Texas some time ago. There is a quite a bit of work already done on it. The lower looks scratch build (not castings)but the cylinders are nicely cored 5" and 3". The low pressure cylinder is marked V8 and that is the only mark I found. It would great to identify it and maybe find some build plans for it. It is missing the eccentrics and connectors for the valves, The "D" valves, Reversing mechanism, cylinder caps and some other minor parts.
This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but could they be Scripps castings? I believe Bob Scripps operates out of Texas and produces an engine that size. I'm not familiar with that engine, so I don't know if his compound has separate cylinder castings or a single casting.
My father's boat has an early Scripps compound with the separately cast cylinders (Bob Scripps now offers one large block for the 3&5x4" compound with HP piston valve. We have one of these blocks waiting for the time to machine...)
Those castings do appear to be Scripps castings judging by the LP exhaust port placement and the overall heftiness of the castings. Scripps engines are VERY generous with the cast iron... on a 3&5x4" casting set, one could probably safely go 4&6x5"
He is a VERY nice guy and very generous. He is getting quite long in the tooth (90's), and his son has taken over most of the operation.
I will post his email later
I would wholeheartedly suggest you edit your comment to remove the above number- and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES POST AN EMAIL ON A PUBLIC FORUM- have a look at the bottom of the page- you will notice that a permanent scan is being made of the forum content by external sources all the time- phone numbers, and especially emails are picked up automatically and spam is forwarded on an unprecedented scale.
PM interested parties with the appropriate info instead- far far safer!

Thank you, I edited it... Even though it was the number for his business, which has been in advertisements in magazines and elsewhere for longer than I have been alive.
Now YOU may want to edit YOUR post, as you managed to plaster the number up a second time, which I cannot remove...
