Low Melt Alloy

Post by mtnman »

Maybe someone here has a use for this. I have 80+ blocks of this Low Melt Alloy. This alloy melts at 115 degrees. Each block weighs more than 1.5 pounds. I'm asking $19 a block and I'll ship anywhere in the US for free. Contact me for shipping to Europe.

115 Fahrenheit is the melting point. It will melt in boiling water. One of the uses is to help bending tubing. You plug the tube, pour it full of this alloy and let cool. Now you can bend all you want without kinking the tube. When you're done drop the bent tubing into boiling water and the alloy melts out leaving the inside of the tube clean (it won't stick).
Another use is measuring the chamber of a rifle. Plug the end of the chamber, pour in the alloy and when cool pull the alloy out. You can then mic the alloy to find the chamber size. This alloy does not shrink when cooled. It's really neat stuff!

I bought a couple of hundred pounds of this and the heater/dispenser at an industrial auction. I used the heater/dispenser to melt it and I cast it into muffin tins. Each block is about 1/3 cup. The heater/dispenser is also for sale.

treat with care, it may contain cadmium. If you do a search for Wood's or Rose's metal you may find more info.
