DetroiTug's Tug is going together

The most simple arrangement, just a hot water tank, 1 gallon or so above the sink, with a 1/4 inch OD steam tube connection that can be manually opened to heat the water. Gravity drain to the sink. Very quick and simple, without the expense of a regulator valve. Steam regulators are at least several hundred USD$ form Sarco.

Yes. A Windermere kettle for your washup water. With a small bit of piping you can have the same tap from the steam source run a kettle as well.

Every time you leave ashore a complicated bit you lessen the chances of spending time working on your boat in beautiful places.

I was considering it on the basis of being a proper regulated hot water system that would work in conjunction with the boats fresh water pressure pump. Obviously if you just want a small amount of water, then a Windermere Kettle is the answer. At some stage in the future, someone will build a really civilised large steamer with all the ammenities. Would really need rather more than 26 feet though.

Just got back from the Mid Michigan Steamboat meet. Had a great time, Chief ran very well for three days. The Hypro pump worked flawlessly. Daniel (dhic) is spot on about the water simply recirculating through the piston pump, It got very hot in a short time. I will route it's bypass through hull and out. The Tug is running much better now, we raced Sayonara down the lake and stayed pretty much even, Although we were fired upon by the Sayonara's deck cannon, we did not yield..... That was a lot of fun, great folks they are.

I gotta get one of those deck cannons...

The new propshaft eliminated the banging sound in the shaft log.

Getting ready to sack out.. At night I'd open a blowdown and drain the hot boiler, the condensing steam would suck it full of cool lake water. Heat was not a problem.



Making breakfast on the galley flat. Cooking aboard worked out very well. Bacon, eggs and coffee, one morning pancakes, bacon and coffee.



Here she is with all windows open, it was over 90 every day there. Hot but fun.

I made that whistle out of a piece of bar rail. 2" diameter brass with a .05" wall. It's 24" long.

Could you please please give us a drawing of the whistle? I have made three so far, all with feeble sound. Building engines and boilers and boat, that all went well, but the whistle has turned into a repeated failure for me.
