Cylinder block ready machined
Hello Steamboaters,
the Cylinder block is ready machined. Maybe some more honing is needed...
No design problems, no defects in the cast iron - everything is fine - I am happy with the result.

Comparison
Here is the CAD picture of the cylinder as comparison. The CAD calculates the weight of the cylinder block with 17,2 kg = 37.9 pounds.
The original part came out of the sand with 21,5 kg (47.4 pounds) and weigh 17.4 kg (38.4 pounds) after machining.
The additional weight of 0,2 kg (0.5 pounds) may result from the drafts of the mold and the rounded corners not calculated in the CAD.

Re: First core bockes
Half a pound variation on a casting of that size and complexity, I would say is VERY close, and as it's not going to go to the moon, of no consequence at all.
Excellent!

Animated gif's
Thank you all!
In the moment I am redesigning my homepage. Mostly layout and programming review...
I also started to describe my engine construction in detail - but only in German now.
Hope, to reopen my steam boat register for new entries soon...
For you here two animated gif's from my engine:

Re: First core bockes
Rainer, I think you are having as much fun doing your CAD animations as you are building the engine!

Re: First core bockes
Next step. Detail from an original build in the same periode like my example:
My CAD solution:
Had to change some things at the base and at the cross-tie to avoid interferences with the oil lid.
Gute Nacht
