A lurking wannabe no more.

Post by Wayleon »

Hello to all.
I have been lurking around here and the NWSS events for the last couple of years but hadn't joined the site because I wasn't a "real" steamer yet. I rectified that last month with the purchase of the "S.L. Chester D" . She is a 20ft rose hull with a Tiny Power W double simple engine.
The "Chester D" was named after her builder Richard Small's father. Back in 1939 my father was a deck hand on a cannery tender that Chester "Chet" Small" was the skipper on. Small world.
This is my first steam boat. I have been a sailor for over 25 years, which up here in the Pacific Northwest of the US means a lot of wallowing and motoring.
I was a Machinist for years and now get to call myself a Mechanical Engineer, although without a degree.
I look forward to being a more active contributor to this site.

Congratulations on the new boat.

Will you be bringing her down to the Great Delta Steamboat Meet down here in California at the end of the month?

Welcome Wayne. In the mechanical engineering realm, there are many with the engineering degree, who cannot tell the difference betweenan automobile engine and an air conditioning comprressor. Real exposure to the machines, and real understanding of them, carries more weight than having just the credentials in my view.
