Ash pan

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

Ash pan

Post by johnp »

How thick should my ash pan be under the grate in my WT boiler? 1/8"? 3/16"? 1/4"?

I would suggest it depends entirely on the size, shape and configuration, but if designed well, 16G (1.6mm) should be more than adequate.

Wet or dry ash pan? Stainless steel?

Ours is a dry ashpan, mild steel, around 5mm thick, but it also holds the weight of the point which is a fairly large firetube boiler!
